From 12 August 2026, the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will enter its first phase of implementation.

This means greater attention must be paid to the technical documentation of packaging and to the compliance of the materials used. It is no longer enough to design efficient packaging; it must also be possible to demonstrate that it meets the requirements set out in the Regulation.

For many years, we have placed great emphasis on the materials we use and on designing packaging as efficiently as possible.

In recent weeks, we have launched a programme to collect and update the technical documentation relating to the materials used in our packaging. In particular, we are requesting certifications and declarations from our cardboard and ink suppliers to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the PPWR, including those relating to the presence of PFAS and compliance with the limits on heavy metals, as well as any other information required to ensure our packaging meets the new regulatory standards. This is because the new Regulation places increasing emphasis on documentary evidence throughout the entire supply chain.

PPWR Checklist

  • Have you identified your role under the PPWR? Are you a Manufacturer?
  • Do you know what materials your packaging contains?
  • Have you obtained the declarations from your suppliers?
  • Has your packaging been designed without unnecessary material or empty space?
  • Is your packaging easily recyclable?

For us, the PPWR is an opportunity to further strengthen the way we design our packaging, with a focus on materials, recyclability, waste reduction, and greater transparency throughout the process.

If you have any questions or would like to understand how this Regulation may affect your packaging, our technical team will be pleased to discuss it with you.
